Kufuor’s modus operandi exposed
.. Shocking and legendary legacy of cronyism, money and paper trail
The chickens are coming home to roost and the shape of their eggs isn’t pretty. It is a story of deals and a modus operandi embedded in cronyism, paper and money trails as well as a series of puzzles that has dogged the shape of how several deals were sealed under Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s government. Don’t follow the paper and money trail alone. Just follow his cronies, who are everywhere, involved in deals, which required Presidential backing in the Oil, Aviation and Telecom sectors.
One day, two aficionados of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) walked to President Kufuor with a business plan. They were namely, George Owusu, an average Ghanaian, who lived in the United States of America and Bewuah Edusei, one of President Kufuor’s confidants, who was appointed by the President as Ghana’s Ambassador to Switzerland and later to the USA, a position which was hitherto held by another Kufuor confidant, Alan Kyeremanteng.
Tugged in their business plan was a United States company called Kosmos Energy, a young company established by a group, whose promoters were financial contributors to the Republican Party in the US, with direct links to George Bush’s White House.
For their move, the two confidants of the Ex-President walked away with a whopping 3.5% interest in Jubilee Oil Field valued at $300million. Their company EO Group became a partner to Kosmos Energy, whilst George Owusu, who had very close ties with political heavyweights in government and the oil sector like Kan Dapaah became the Country Representative of Kosmos Energy.
It has turned out from Emerging available documents that the petroleum agreement among Kosmos Energy, GNPC and the Government of Ghana, was the worst petroleum agreement ever signed by the GNPC and government.
By some absurd policy of the NPP government, which has now come to be known as the M-Plaza Declaration, government instructed GNPC, which had built up technical data over 20 years at high cost to the nation, to only play a facilitation role, a situation which experts say has weakened GNPC’s control over the countries oil resource.
After almost 20 years of assembling data, analyzing and promoting the petroleum potential of Ghana at various international fora, GNPC walked away with an infinitesimal 10% interest, whilst the President’s cronies alone walked away with 3.5%.
To make matters worse, the GNPC’s ability to acquire more shares under the agreement was again crippled, when it was pegged at a meager 2.5%, reducing GNPC and government’s capacity to increase its interest. Industry experts say the usual provision in previous contracts was pegged at between 10%-15%.
GNPC, under these terms, thus gained only an additional 2.5% when it exercised its right to acquire additional stakes under the agreement.
What this means is that if government had pushed for the “additional Interest” figure to the standard 10%-15%, GNPC and the people of Ghana would have been richer by 15% more in the Jubilee Field.
When it came to the agreement with Tullow Oil, a British oil company, GNPC realized that the Kosmos deal was so bad that it had to re-negotiate for a higher figure for the “additional carried interest” and succeeded in raising it from a hopeless 2.5% with Kosmos to an average 5%.
The question is how come that anytime a deal passes through Kufuor’s hands, it turns out to raise eyebrows?
AKER AND CHEMU POWER
Aker is a Norwegian oil company, which also has oil concessions in Ghana. The local partner of Aker is a company called Chemu Power. Does Chemu ring a bell? It’s the name of a lake somewhere in the boondocks of Tema. Chemu is owned by a Ghanaian duo but registered offshore somewhere in the Channel Island in the United Kingdom.
Guess who owns Chemu Power? It is owned by Nick Amerteifio and Dr. Charles Mensah.
Do you remember Nick Amartefio? He is another NPP kingpin and super confidant of former President Kufuor. Nick was also a board Member of Bank of Ghana as well as a board member of VALCO, a company in which the Kufuor Administration purchased controlling interest.
The other Shareholder of Chemu is Dr. Charles Mensah, Chief Executive of VALCO. Before his appointment as CEO of VALCO, Dr. Mensah was the Country Manager of Kaiser Aluminum from the USA, the original owners of VALCO.
It was after he led the sale of Kaiser’s interest in VALCO to the Kufuor administration that Kufuor appointed him as CEO of VALCO. Dr. Charles Mensah before then, as Chairman the University of Cape Coast Council was the guy who led the conferment of an honorary Law doctorate on President Kufuor at a time when the University did not have a law faculty.
Interestingly, whilst the Board of VALCO, including Nick Amarteifio gave Dr. Charles Mensah the green light to build power plants to power VALCO, the object of the offshore company, owned by Nick and Charles Mensah, included building power plants.
Dr. Charles Mensah and Nick Amarteifio also own another offshore company called Chemu Capital, with an office and a bank account in Switzerland, a safe haven for …
How come, Kufuor’s confidants are the only beneficiaries in almost all the oil deals? Your guess is as good as mine. This is for the record. Next Week: ExxonMobil – Herbert Osei Badu – Tullow Oil – Sabre Oil etc.: Also, the finale to deals between Charles and Nick. When I get to the telecom Sector Nick Amerteifio will come up again and more cronies.

Everything you need to learn about High-key photography is actually already in the name. It does mean that the photo’s key tone is increased. Alright, that’s it.
Let me unpick that in more detail. Key tones are normally the mid-tones, so by placing them high, meaning high on the exposure scale, we are making them lighter/brighter. This has two crucial side-effects. If mid-tones are bright, then the high-tones – those which are usually nearly white – will be even whiter. Well, tones can’t be whiter than white in digital photography (though they can in video) so these super-white tones are clipped down to keep them to white. At the other extreme, areas that normally register with dark tones are dragged up the brightness scale so that they become much brighter. The key to high-key photography is actually in the control of these dark tones: essentially we don’t want them.
Not only over-exposure
Now, you may start to suspect that high key images are not just about over-exposure, and you’d be right.

Surely one of the best beauties of digital cameras is that you can share the photo with someone immediately you’ve shot it. So why not share it with your candid subject: if you’ve made a shot and been noticed, immediately offer to show the person the image. When they see you’re not trying to hide away anything, they are more willing to cooperate for more images. Of course, you lose that candid element. But that’s only for a short time: if you encourage them to ignore you, they usually do so pretty quickly.
There’s always a risk they will ask you to erase the image if they don’t like it. If that happens, I never question or argue about it but erase it immediately. For me, it’s important that my subjects are happy with how they feel: I owe it to them as a photographer.

You can use the flash with day light for awesome results. Your photo camera may offer a ‘reduced flash’ setting.
Direct aimed flash on more people produces better-looking photos than direct flash on a single person.
The newest photo cameras allow you to set high ISO speeds e.g. ISO 800 which can help avoid using flash altogether.
Avoid red-eye by turning up light in the room.
If you use your camera’s red-eye reduction setting when taking flash photographs of people you avoid red-eye, but there’s a delay in taking the shot which may cause you to miss the moment

Side light extend shapes, textures and structures. Because of this early dusk are best times to photograph.
With the sun behind your subject, you get some of the most dramatic visual effects … but exposure could be tricky to get right. Try it anyway!
When the sun is high and the light is hard, don’t fight it to try to get it all. Concentrate on exposing the bright parts properly and work with the shapes of shadows.
For light and shadow effects you need the sun, of course, but colours are often more intense on half-sunny or overcast days.

Do not be afraid to take portrait pictures – that is, with the photo camera on its side.
Use only features in the direct environment to compose a frame for your subject or to lead the eye through the image.
Zoom in to compose a sense of intimacy. Leave out from your shots elements like the sun or the sky, which give a feeling of open space.
Experiment with framing. Try framing your pictures with lots of foreground and very little sky, or lots of sky and very little land.
A wide-angle lens will keep everything in focus while helping to maximise the ‘depth of field’, or feeling of depth in your shots.
Zooming-in will flatten the sense of perspective and make distant objects appear closer together.
Zooming-in will also affect the amount of your picture that is in focus allowing you to isolate details against an out-of-focus foreground and/or background.
Be careful to avoid camera shake when zoomed right in, as tiny movements in your hands become magnified.

A imagination with an affinity for the digital camera, reflections provide a result of photographic opportunities. The particular way in which a digital camera look at the surroundings – that is, constrained in a frame, and no more than in depth of field – works really well with the upside-down, inside-out world of the reflection. Let the photo take the lead. Some of the best expressive examples of reflections are observed on still water, where they produce striking symmetrical effects.
One day, on a shoot for ‘How to Photograph Absolutely Everything’ I was messing about at the Mirror Pool in the New York Botanical Gardens (which, if you’ve not been to, is well worth a visit at any time, in any weather).
First I investigate the way the reflection changes its shape as I change my position – both from side to side and up and down. Here, I’m looking for a strong shape to emerge. These simply show the scene visible by looking up, but with rippled distortions.

Inkjet printer ink is sometimes called “liquid gold”. It very well can be considered the most expensive liquid on earth. That’s because over the lifetime of any ink jet printer you will most likely spend a lot more on ink cartridges than you initially spent on the printer.
However, when you know how to save your printer ink whenever you print a document, you will also save yourself and your company many dollars over the course of time. And that’s what this article is about.
It all starts with your choice of printer. One thing’s for sure – the large cartridges you will find on bigger printers are more cost effective than the small cartridges that you find in smaller printers. If you are purchasing a printer for your company because you need it to print out a lot of documents on a daily basis it could be well worth the extra initial investment to buy a larger printer.
Next, there are two primary things you can do to save your printers ink once you’ve bought it and installed your ink cartridges in your printer. The first is layout optimization and the second is the method you use to print your documents.

In case you take a picture of children or animals, set everything up first. Set the photo camera to macro or close-up mode if you’re going to be very close, and use a wide angle – I had an idea of the shot I want to take – from low down. I turned off the flash. I flipped out the LCD screen so I could see the image while the camera was at ground level. I set it to aperture priority with a small aperture for maximum depth of field. I thought if I am going to be resting the camera on the ground, and the pooch lies still, I can get by with a long exposure time.
To make sure the delicate and subtle textures of fur register in your image, you must work in subdued lighting. Fortunately, our mutt had chosen open shade under a bush. Her ideal spot was also our ideal spot. I moved slowly, smoothly and quietly to avoid startling or disturbing her. Nonetheless, she did wake and enquire what we were doing, so I snapped a normal portrait, and quietly said she could take it easy; I was just some pesky photographer who’d go away soon.

Going on a whitewater kayak adventure can be fun, exciting, and exhilarating; however there are a few basics which you should acknowledge yourself with before even considering going on this sort of outing. For one, the whitewater kayak sport is incredibly gear intensive.
Although you don’t have to be in excellent physical shape to whitewater kayak, you should have adequate upper arm and shoulder strength, so that you can use the paddles or oars properly, and have enough strength to take care of yourself in the rapids in the event of an emergency.
You should also be able to hold your breath for a relatively substantial amount of time, in case your whitewater kayak were to tip, and you also may want to simply tone up a bit so that your muscles are that much more ready for such a physical activity.
Gearing Up To Go Whitewater Kayaking
The basic equipment that you will need for your whitewater kayak trip is as follows: boat, paddle, sprayskirt, helmet, and lifejacket. There are of course other accessories which you can include, but these are the must-haves, the essentials. Signing up and attending even a few lessons before actually going on your whitewater kayaking trip is a good idea, so that you can actually have fun on the trip because you will know what you are doing.
Through training you will learn such things as bracing, rolling, and most important, wet exiting. You will also learn such techniques as eddy turns, peel outs, ferrying, and surfing.

Defragmenting disks is a very important part of computer maintenance, because badly fragmented hard drives can make your PC slow and unreliable. That’s why you need to defrag regularly. The easiest way to do it is to schedule defrag to run once a week. It’s best to schedule defragmentation for the time when you are not using your computer, so that it interrupt your work.
But what if you keep forgetting to schedule defrag or it keeps annoying you by starting up when you are in the middle of something? The answer is to use defrag screensaver. It will start automatically when your system goes idle, so your work will never get interrupted by defragmentation again.

Let’s start by imagining your lens is a projector – in fact it is exactly that: it projects an image of the scene onto your camera’s sensor. It bundles the light from the scene into the lens, then sends it to the sensor: there is a point in the path of light where the image appears to come from – like the light fanning out of a film or transparency projector. This point goes by various technical names such as rear vertex or rear principal point, but the key thing is that we measure focal length from that point.
Now, we set up the lens to focus on a very distant subject (said to be “at infinity” because the light rays are for all purposes parallel to each other) and measure from the point from which the image appears to be projected in a straight line to the plane in which the sharp image lies – typically, that’s a shade below the physical surface of the sensor.
The point from which the image is projected can lie within the lens – we’d expect that. But this definition reveals the odd thing that the point from which the image is projected can also lie behind the lens and even in front. Look at a typical modern telephoto lens: its marked focal length is 300mm, but its physical length could be as short as 120mm or less. Similarly, you’re sure to have noticed that a wide-angle lens or focal length setting of 24mm is way longer than 24mm. Even the space between the rear of the lens to the sensor is greater than 24mm.

Before you can really begin to develop Android applications, it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of what exactly Android is. In the simplest terms, Android is a set of software that works together to help you develop web applications. Included with Android is an operating system, middleware, and key applications and the Android SDK is what gives you the tools and APIs you’ll need to develop applications on the Android platform. Android makes use of Java programming language so that most developers will already be familiar with the basics but developing a deeper understanding of Android will give you the skills you need to create interesting, interactive applications.
Android Features There are a number of features that make Android one of the leading application developer tools. First of all, there is an application framework that allows for the reuse and replacement of components. In addition, Android utilizes Dalvik virtual machine which has been optimized for mobile devices and features an integrated browser which has been modeled around open source WebKit.

Oh, yes, it’s that time of the year again. The temptation is to put the camera away as the days shorten, and the light seems to worsen. But remember the wise words of the great Ernst Haas (which I never tire of trotting out): “All light is GOOD light” (my emphasis).
You know what he means. It’s as good as you make it. Let’s see what happened when I was on a shoot for a book and the day was drenched in rain, then autumnal fog and cold to the bones in pretty Pocono, Pennsylvania.
Because the fog accentuates aerial perspective, small distances between objects are pictorially exaggerated. With this kind of unusual natural effect at your fingertips, the only issue is to find a subject matter that exploits that illusion. Although it’s tempting to stay indoors with a hot cup of cocoa on such a miserable day, pull your coat on and get out there! It’s very easy to find beautifully atmospheric results.

When you say data inputting service, it cannot be avoided that the first thing that would come to mind would be how the service provider would easily input some required data into a form. For others, this service might just mean putting letters and numbers into an entry form. However, there is more to data inputting service than what the name entails. There is a wide variety of jobs that can be taken by almost anybody who are interested in the said field. Moreover, it is easier to get into jobs in the data inputting field for these jobs do not require the applicant any previous experience. Even if you may have just graduated from high school without any further degree in college, you will not be discriminated against in these jobs. You need not have an employer who will bark endless commands at you. You only need to work for yourself.
The following is a list of some of the jobs which can provide data inputting service.

Losing weight is an activity that requires a person’s full attention. Too often we decide ourselves that losing weight will “just happen.” The reality is that we have to learn how to lose weight effectively.
Even before developing a weight loss plan, it’s important to become more aware of what we eat, how much we eat, and some of the pressures that spur us to “emotional eating.” A way to keep track of all these factors is by using a food journal to learn how to lose weight.
A food journal is an excellent tool that can be a truly eye-opening experience. Few people are really aware of how much they eat and how unhealthy some of the foods they eat truly are. The term “empty calories” was coined for describe foods that are high in calories, but low in nutrition. Foods such as these include popular snacks such as potato chips, sodas and candy.
In contrast, “nutrient dense” is the term given to healthy foods that carry high levels of proteins, carbohydrates, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and water in relation to their amount of calories. 10 minutes of exercise a day
This is not asking a lot. It is only 10 minutes! The reason I say this is because below you will see that I say you need to eat plenty of fiber. This is so you have a bowel movement more often and get rid of that other yucky fecal matter that is left in your body. But to do that you need to get your insides moving around. So either walk for 10 minutes, you some crunches for 10 minutes, or any other sort of exercise. This will also burn off some of those extra calories that you may be eating. If you want to lose fat in a week, then burn those fat cells that are ready to leave your body.
Don’t eat as much
I am not saying starve yourself. Instead of eating a full plate of food, eat half a plate. Make sure you get three of these small meals a day. Since you want to lose weight in a week, this should help you burn fat quicker. This will keep her metabolism going and burn off the calories. It only slows your metabolism down if you eat one meal a day.
Eat fiber
Whether you eat more fiber or take a fiber supplement, this will make you get rid of all that extra fecal matter that’s inside your body. It is said that your body can hold over 10 the 20 pounds of fecal matter. Get rid of it by eating more fiber. Getting rid of the extra fecal matter will allow you to lose weight in a week.

Socks are a refined but considerable part of your look. Naturally, there aren’t countless rules to be followed. There are only a few easy key points that must be looked after. While socks rules aren’t bounteous, there are a shocking number of folk out there breaking them every day. Remember, certain socks are only for big occasions and certain colors are only for special outfits.
Black pants should go with black socks and grey pants with gray socks. When in doubt, simply choose a dark color.
Do remember, white socks is not an appropriate formal wear. Leave it for the sporting activities. Remember, people do see your socks when you sit down and cross your legs. The minute a lady sees you wearing white socks with shoes you can be exposed as a weakling. Sorry!
Hence team your dress shoes with dress socks only.

There has been a very large wave of trouble with Myspace. And parents seem to be saying the same thing. Just read what this parent had to say. ” Margaret Sullivan: I found all kinds of pictures of kids in revealing positions, and pictures of kids scantily dressed.
It’s a cyber secret teenagers keep from tech-challenged parents who are not as savvy as Margaret. It’s a world where the kids next door can play any role they want. They may not realize everyone with Internet access, including sexual predators, may see the pictures and personal information they post.”
When “Dateline” surfed MySpace, we found scenes of binge drinking, apparent drug use, teens posing in underwear. We also found less provocative pages like Shannon’s was, but potentially even more dangerous. Teens listed not only their names, and addresses, but even cell phone numbers and after school schedules.” No if your a parent and you need help and all the information on what to and how to do it on and about Myspace. I have constructed a Myspace guide to bring you up to speed. Yes this guide is free I want every parent to get a copy no matter your income level is.

Have you ever imagined yourself being asked to create your own solar panels? This article will try to help you make one. Solar panels, at first glance, look very complicated, but actually, making them is so simple. The solar panel is a device that converts solar energy into electrical energy. A typical commercial solar panel is made from silicon.
In order to create your own solar panels you will need the following materials and tools. First you have to secure about 36 square inch of copper flashing. You will use copper instead of silicon for your solar cells. A 1000 watts electric stove, a large mouth glass jar, one cup of table salt, tap water are also needed. As for the tools, you will use a sheet metal shears, sand papers, wires and two alligator clips. A multi-meter will be very useful in regulating and monitoring the electrical output.
The first step is to clean the copper sheet thoroughly. Make sure that it is free from grease and oil. You may use sand paper for this. Then put it on top of the electric stove. Turn on the stove to High. As the copper heats up, you will notice some transformations and changing of colors. After about half an hour, turn off the stove and let the copper sheet cool down to room temperature. When it is already cold, then you have to clean the copper sheet again.
Create your own solar panels by combining a number of solar cells. You will need your burned copper sheet for this. Cut another copper sheet about the same size of the burned copper. Get your glass jar. Bend the two copper sheets and insert them inside the jar. Do it carefully making sure that they do not touch one another. Attach the alligator clips to each copper plate. The alligator clip attached to the clean copper plate must be connected to the positive terminal of your multi-tester. The other clip must be connected to the burned copper plate.

The indigenous peoples have always believed that nature spirits inhabited the Earth. These spirits inhabit mountains, lakes, trees, etc and have different forms and roles to suit each case. More modern societies named these spirits as Fairies, Gnomes, Elves, Brownies or even Leprechauns. The ancient writings suggest that, although living in a higher plane than the physical, these nature spirits (or Elementals) are at a low level of spiritual evolution and have no will of their own. They act as the architects/builders of nature as we know it, under direction from a higher level. Their next stage of progression is to manifest as inert matter – rocks etc. – before, over eons of time, evolving through the plant, animal and human kingdoms.
